The Slag Cement Association (SCA) is accepting nominations in the Slag Cement in Sustainable Concrete Awards Program – formerly Project of the Year Awards – through Nov. 1. The rebranding directly reflects the vital role of slag cement in creating sustainable and resilient concrete.
The award categories now include Architectural, Durability, Infrastructure, High Performance, Innovative Applications, and Lower Carbon Concrete. In addition, nominators can now indicate if portland-limestone cement (PLC) was used on a project. Along with exemplary slag cement concrete practice, the SCA Awards Program also honors research.
“The rebrand of the SCA Awards program exemplifies the importance of sustainability in concrete construction,” said SCA Executive Director Drew Burns. “Slag cement provides many benefits when used in concrete mixtures such as durability, resiliency, and high performance. This is great opportunity to showcase the use of slag cement and PLC in lowering the carbon impact of concrete.”
Eligibility requires projects to be in North America and completed or scheduled to be completed between Jan. 1, 2020, and Dec. 31, 2021. Nomination forms, along with galleries of past winners, can be found at www.slagcement.org.
